Dreams and Nightmares

By Steve G

February 15th, 2K

You pause for a moment, and look up into the sky,

Just then you see two eagles soar by.

Soaring off together with such majesty and grace,

But here you are stuck in this futile and lonely rat race.

Another beautiful sunrise and another glorious sunset,

Every morning you wake up alone in a cold and clammy sweat.

You stride two steps forward and but falter and fall two steps back,

No matter what you do, you're future looks so bleak, empty and black.

In a field you see two bunnies doing what comes to them naturally,

Your smile turns to tears as the feelings of your solitude overwhelm you so actually.

As dusk turns into night, you fall asleep dreaming of the companionship you desire,

Soon your dreams turn to nightmares of a hollow desolation, such an empty quagmire.

Your future and destiny seems so very much out of your control,

An enormous black hole has seemingly sucked away your soul.

You frantically search in every corner inside of you,

But there's not one dream in sight for you to view.

Within yourself, you find your heart has been broken apart and so full of unmanageable fear,

Desperately you try to reclaim it, but regardless of how you try you can shed not a single tear.

You've lost touch with your every hope and true desire,

Hoping you'll soon be consumed by an intense funeral pyre.

Without warning, your hopes are suddenly displayed upon the horizon in front of you,

Your heart starts beating once again, so intensely, you haven't a clue as to what to do.

Once again, you find yourself so completely out of control,

As all of your dreams have flooded the emptiness of your soul.

Each night now finds you falling quickly asleep and peacefully dreaming,

In the morning, you awaken with your future so bright and gleaming.

You stride two steps forward, and fall back only one,

Finding the cold being displaced by the warmth of the sun.

The hopes you've lost have been miraculously renewed,

Distantly fading memories of all those times that you've stewed.

Step by step, you patiently forge ahead,

Waiting for those hopes and dreams to be fed.

Each night you now dream in blissful serenity,

Finding yourself seemingly renewed for an eternity.

Gone are those horrid and lingering nightmares of the past,

Having been displaced by dreams flying high upon a rigid mast.

The sun rises so bright, vibrantly colorful and full of chance,

Back are the visions of true love, intense sex and romance.

The moral of the story is to never give up on your hopes and your dreams,

For that nightmare is never as painfully true as it so seems.
