It was a beautiful Friday night as I prepared to depart from Tampa on the evening of the 6th of April, 2001. I was booked on Delta flight 1092 from Tampa to Atlanta where I would change planes for the flight to Detroit. Flight 1092 was a L-1011, a type which will be removed from service from Delta's fleet in August, 2001. The Tri-Star is an oldie, but a goodie, and will be missed by many, myself included. You can see my plane on the left.
My flights were uneventful and I arrived without incident in Detroit. I was staying with Chris and Jordan on this visit. It's always wonderful to stay with friends. There was a noisy storm which passed through in the middle of the night and interrupted my sleep, but I still managed to sleep for about 4 to 5 hours. My friend Kevin was driving up from Indiana on Saturday and we headed out to the Henry Ford Museum in Deerborn.
This was my second visit to Henry Ford. They are always working on improvements, so there is almost always something new and exciting to see.

Visiting Henry Ford gives me the chance to see things that are older than I am Always a welcome sight.

We did gourmet lunch at the Oscar Mayer Wiener Cafe. The wieners were good, but the cheese sauce was bland and without flavor.
I soon had the opportunity top see if that highly nutritional meal would give me the energy to light up the city. I don't think I did too bad, considering.
The lighting for the exhibit on the Cold War was a bit eerie, but so was the Cold War itself, come to think about it.
The weather later in the day cleared up some, and it was actually a decent day. My friends thought I was strange for wearing a tank top, shorts and flip flops, but hey, that's just me. I do love my flip flops.
Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day. The temperatures reached the upper seventies, and there was not a cloud in the picturesque blue sky. It was a bit on the windy side, but that gave an opportunity for some interesting longhair pictures.
Later in the day we went to Great Lakes Crossings, Somerset and even looking at cars. I got some silly photo ideas after seeing my reflection in the showroom windows.
All in all it was a most excellent trip. It is always great to see my friends in the mid west. It was excellent to see Mike at my birthday dinner on Sunday night and to meet his boy friend Matt.

My trip back to Tampa went smoothly. I did see a very cute guy in Hartsfield, running through concourse A with his beautiful blond hair flowing behind him. I fantasized about what would the possibilities be of his also going to Tampa and even better, what if he were to have the seat next to me. Unfortunately, I ended up sitting next to some old man who was reading a Harry Potter book. Oh well, so much for fate giving me the birthday present of all birthday presents. Since I do love to travel so much, it certainly would be great to meet a fellow longhaired traveler who caught my eye in the usual chaos of the airport terminal.
